Call Numbers Help

Call numbers can be searched in Primo to find specific physical materials (ie. books, journal articles, films, etc). Electronic resources do not have call numbers assigned to them, though they can be accessed online.

The two most common types of call numbers found in the library are:

  1. Library of Congress (LC) call numbers.
These are alpha/numeric combinations given to physical materials based on their subject matter.

    Examples:

    • DG286 .G73
    • E13 .F5x
    • NC1355 . M27 1981

See the Library of Congress Classification Outline for more information.

  2. Government document (Codoc) call numbers:

    Examples:

    • CA1 LC 98C71
    • UN2 A24 91P56
