Configuring Personal Bibliographic Software for TRELLIS

(Z39.50 Searching)

EndNote, Reference Manager and ProCite all have the ability to connect to and search any library catalogue that adheres to the Z39.50 standards. TRELLIS is Z39.50 compliant, and you can add TRELLIS to the Internet search list for all three programs.

Configuring EndNote for Z39.50

Universities of Guelph, Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier are not included in the list of Library Catalogs listed under File/Connect/library catalogs. You must add it.

  1. From either the File menu or the Edit menu (depending upon which version of the software you have), select Connection files and New Connection files.
  2. Enter the following information for your home University:
    Server Description: U of Guelph or U of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier
    Server address: 129.97.129.194
    Database description: TRELLIS
    Database name: Voyager
    Element set: F Port: 7090
    Record syntax: USMARC

    This will enter your home University site into the library catalogs folder.
  3. Under either File or Tools (again, depending upon your software's version), select Connect and open the folder for Library Catalogs.
  4. Double click on Uof Guelp/U of Waterloo/Wilfrid Laurier and the search screen will appear with the Search Remote selected.
  5. Enter search terms etc.
Configuring Reference Manager for Z39.50
  1. From the Reference menu, select Retrieve or Internet Search.
  2. At the Retrieval screen, select Internet Search and choose the Z39.50 sites.
  3. Click on the icon to the right (a globe with a finger on it) to bring up a list of Z39.50 hosts and databases.
  4. University of Waterloo is not in the list so you need to configure a Host so you can search TRELLIS.
  5. Click on Configure and then New Host. Fill in the Host properties as follows:
    Host Name: U. of Waterloo
    Domain Name or IP address: 129.97.129.194
    Port: 7090
  6. Click OK.
  7. Fill in the Database Properties
    Name: Voyager
    Record Type: USMARC
  8. Click OK.
  9. Return to the search screen (Reference/Internet Search), select z39.50 search from the dropdown menu and U Waterloo from the list (click on the globe icon). Enter search terms etc..
Configuring ProCite for Z39.50
  1. On the Internet Search tab, click the Hosts button to display the Internet Hosts dialog.
  2. Click Configure Hosts to display the list of Z39.50 servers currently configured.
  3. Click New Host.
  4. On the General tab, enter the following.
    Host Name: University of Guelph or University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier Library Catalogue.
    Domain Name or IP Address: 129.97.129.194
    Port Number: 7090
    Library Type: Academic
    Location: Canada
    URL: The web address of this host (not required). It is helpful as a reference in case you have questions later.
    Description: A short description of the host, for this display only.
  5. Click OK to save changes to the Host Properties.
ProCite will now prompt you to configure at least one database.
  1. Fill in the displayed fields with the following information:
    Database Name: VOYAGER
    Description: Trellis Catalogue
    Record Type: USmarc
    Format: USmarc
  2. Now you must enter the Search attributes as they appear below.
  3. Click OK, then OK again.
  4. Click on the University of Guelph or University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier Library Catalogue checkbox to select it for searching.
  5. You can now use the form provided to carry out a search of the Trellis catalogue.
