Advanced Search

This search finds records using keywords located anywhere in a record, or only specified fields (e.g., author field, title field, publisher field, etc.).

Sample search screen

1. "search for" box

Type in the word(s) you want to find in the "search for" box. Use ? to truncate the word (e.g., observ? will search for observe, observed, observing, observation, observable, observant, observatory, etc).

2. all of these, any of these, or as a phrase

If you entered more than one term in the box, choose from the drop-down list whether you want to search for any of the terms (ors terms together), all of the terms (ands terms together), or search the terms as a phrase (field guide).

3. Select fields

You can restrict your search to a certain field by choosing from the "search in" list.

4. Select Boolean operators

If you want to enter additional terms in the subsequent "search for" boxes, select the Boolean operators you want applied: not, and, or or (they are executed in this order ).

5. Click the "search" button to begin your search. Click the "reset" button to clear the search page.

TIP: Click the "all search limits" button if you want to limit your keyword seach by location, language, date of publication, material type, or medium.
