Chemical Abstracts
Using SciFinder ScholarDescription
The full Chemical Abstracts database from 1907 to present is available via the SciFinder Scholar software. The database includes over 20.5 million citations to the literature of all branches of chemistry, as well as compound information including structure, chemical names, formulas, Registry Numbers and reaction information for organic and organometallic reactions.
It includes:
- Chemical reaction searching (CASREACT)
- Commercially available chemical information (CHEMCATS)
- Regulated chemical information (CHEMLIST)
- Links to full text journals and patents

- University of Guelph users
Chemical Abstracts via SciFinder Scholar software is available to faculty, staff and students of the University of Guelph
Hours of operation are 1:00 am Sunday to 10:00 pm Saturday (the system is down from late Saturday evening to early Sunday morning)A maximum of 3 simultaneous users are allowed. Users will need to logout as soon as searches are completed. If a 4th person tries to run the program, he or she will be notified that too many people are on the system and SciFinder will not run.
SciFinder Scholar is available on workstations in the Library. University of Guelph faculty, staff and students may also access the database from office and lab computers or from off-campus. If you are outside the library, the first time this machine is used to access this or other Citrix databases, it is necessary to download and install a browser "plugin". Any updates to the Citrix server software will require re-installing the plug-in. Contact the Reference Desk for information on downloading the software. Chemical Abstracts via SciFinder Scholar software is available to faculty, staff and students of the University of Waterloo

SciFinder Scholar is available on the journal index workstations in the Hollinger area of the Davis Centre Library. University of Waterloo faculty, staff and students may also access the database from office and lab computers by installing the SciFinder Scholar client. This software is available to current University of Waterloo faculty, staff and students for download from the web.
