GODOT: Open End to End Solution
Presenters: Lynn Copeland and Elaine Fairey, Simon Fraser University Library
Libraries, and librarians, exist in order to facilitate the often complex connection between users and information resources. Luckily, even as the information explosion further complicates that connection, technology is providing tools to simplify the research process. Through the GODOT holding/requesting software, users can easily follow the links from database citations to articles or books on the shelf (or online), thereby maximizing the use of local materials and expanding access to remote collections. PERL-based and easy to configure, GODOT is open software that simplifies life not only for library users, but also for library staff. Interlibrary Loans staff can configure wording, input screens and email addresses to conform to their requirements. GODOT may be installed on a local server or accessed at another site. Support for GODOT is provided, at a fee, through COPPUL and SFU.
